Latests News, and AcquisitionsThursday 13th March 2008 - Vehicles of Distinction join the ranks. Following on from our partnership in June 2007 with Kells Transport Museum, we have been organising for some vehicles that require attention so as to survive the following few years to be transferred to joint custody, so as the vehicles can be completly overhauled by the M.V.P.S.I. in our workshops. A complete list has now been drawn up and some vehicles will be transferred to our Wicklow depot during the next few weeks. As a large amount of them do require a lot of work both mechanically as well as bodywise, projects will be spread evenly across our current team and some will be overhauled at our Cork Depot. Wednesday 5th March 2008 - Cultrá 2008 - Details Announced.

We've finally gotten the website mostly online, it still requires some work and futher pages to go online - but the main proportion of the website is online. Aside from getting vehicles dehibernated following the Christmas period, the website has been on our priority list for a while, having been idle since July 2007 - we need the website as a marketing key to informing sponsors and vehicle donators about us and the work we do. While we have been offline, we're secured hosting with Hosting365, Ireland's premium hosting provider, who have kindly provided us with free hosting for the website. With the new website we've coupled some new features - such as our new Blog, Forums (in association with Irish Transport Forums), and our Services page. Feel free to browse through the website, we hope to have it 100% within the next week or so. Our Galleries and Restoration Logs are under construction at the moment and will be online once complete. Tiger roars through restoration. As the final days of our Leyland Tiger restoration come about, it is hard to imagine the amount of work we have put in over the past few years, practically rebuilding the bus as it had been badly neglected over the years. With Plaxton 3500 high-liner bodywork but being a low-nosed model made for sourcing some components that littile bit challenging. But, thankfully the restoration is almost complete and she is currently being rubbed down for a re-spray into the Alpine Coaches Sliver with stripes. She will enter as the first fully restored luxury coach in our fleet and will be the first to take up duty on our new summer tours of Ireland. New depot officially opened. Well, after nearly a year of organising, our main depot has finally opened on the East coast, in the lovely garden of Ireland, Co. Wicklow. We have been blessed with the great weather and so have made great progress in organising the yard, offices as well as installing all the necessary items to run an effective society where vehicles can be stored securely as well as most being on the one site. We currently have eight vehicles stored here although have capacity for about 28, giving us plenty of room to spread out vehicles being restored through our services. Along with that we have begun laying out our stores, workshop, canteen as well as offices and hope to have everything nice and settled by February. Our workshop is adequate and with a fully kitted out workshop, complete with pits and a concrete storage area just a small distance away, we really have everything, as well as being only 25 minutes from Dublin City. Vehicles can now begin their restorations which have previously been postponed due to the lack of indoor storage, which is now thankfully a thing of the past. 79 MN 522 Acquired.
The first acquisition of 2008! St. Kevin's of Glendalough have kindly donated 79 MN 622, a superb example of a Supreme IV. Although the photo doesn't do it justice, as it has been lying idle for 2 years, her body is 100% sound, and the engine is as sweet as a nut - having been overhauled shortly before being withdrawn from service. She's a prime candidate for Cultrá, and it requires little more than a repaint and some tidying. It had it capacity reduced to 51, the row directly behind the driver was removed. It was originally a 49 seater, with reclinding seats, but was increased to 53 seats later on (possibly when it left service from Wallace Arnold). Body No. 79 11 LC 065 |
